Dissertation Award in Nuclear Physics
The winners of the 2007 Dissertation Award are
Deepshikha Choudhury
of Ohio University
"For her dissertation investigating neutron polarizabilities and nucleon-nucleon scattering in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory."
and
Nikolai Tolich of Stanford University
"For his dissertation presenting an experimental investigation of
terrestrial electron anti-neutrinos with KamLAND."
Purpose: To recognize a
recent Ph. D. in Nuclear Physics.
Nature: The award consists of
$2,000 and an allowance for travel to the annual Spring Meeting
of the Division of Nuclear Physics of The American Physical Society,
at which the award will be presented.
Establishment & Support:
This award was endowed in 1985 by members and friends of the Division
of Nuclear Physics.
Rules & Eligibility: Nominations
are open to any person who has received a Ph.D. degree in experimental
or theoretical nuclear physics from a North American university
within the two-year period preceeding the deadline of 1 July each year. Nominations should include:
- The name of the proposed candidate,
- A statement of her/his contribution to the thesis research
as well as that of others,
- A letter of support from the nominee's research advisor,
- Two additional letters of support from physicists who are
familar with the candidate and the research.
Nominations remain in effect for two years and need not be resubmitted.

Nominations
for the Dissertation Award in Nuclear Physics are due on 1 July
for the following year's prize.
